10 Quick Tips About Online Job Hunting

  1. Begin your job quest using your favorite Search Engine, like Bing, Google, Yahoo, etc.
  2.  As Search Engines go, “Yes”, Google, as Mark Twain would agree, is the “White Elephant in the Room”.
  3. Keep It Simple, one word or two word searches for a broad answer & then you can add a zip code or a city with the state included to your search.
  4. [Bracket] symbols will help you look for exact words, for example,  [cdl] truck driver jobs.
  5. “Quotation” marks around  a few words will narrow the search to the exact phrase, like “general labor machine operator”.
  6. The minus (-) symbol will exclude words you don’t want. An example would be, “jobs –steve”.
  7. Always check three or four pages of results because Search Engines usually only display big hitters and advertisers, you may just find a sparkling gem of a great job buried on page three.
  8. Never ignore the Help Wanted job ads usually posted at the top, bottom, or to the right of each page.  Local companies would not advertise if they didn’t have a job available, assuming you have the qualifications.
  9. Search Engines are local, if you are moving to another city, you can get you career search done ahead of time with nothing more than adding your new zip code to your search.
  10. Remember, there are living & breathing Recruiters on the other end of your “Click”, if you make an appointment, keep it or you may just get blacklisted for being a “No Call, No Show”.
